About us
Parts of this formerly prominent agriculture sector and businesses along the picturesque R62 have been brought to their knees by this prolonged drought.
Due to the lack of government or other organized forms of assistance for perennial crops, the R62G initiative was born.
The R62G initiative aims not only to provide support for perennial crop farmers and value chains but believe in a community-based approach = leave no one behind.
The R62 Growth Initiative has been established to assist in restoring this struggling regional economy through various strategic interventions for sustainable growth and climate adaptation.

Revive
The R62 is situated in the Little Karoo in the Western Cape. It is a renowned travelling route known for various tourist gems along the way. The challenges faced by the Route 62 communities, businesses, farms and its stakeholders require urgent strategic interventions that focus on the effective and sustainable revival of the once vibrant regional economy, that many still call home.
Recover
The recovery of farms and businesses along the R62 is dependent on a movement of many people across the globe being collectively strong. In order to achieve our goals we are relying on people’s generosity to contribute financially to assist the communities along the R62 in the Western Cape, one of the most scenic routes to travel when you visit South Africa.
Rebuild
Rebuild the communities, farms, and businesses along the R62 through structured relief.
We will take hands with all willing to assist and use programs that will improve the sustainability and growth of the value chains, starting with the basis of this rural economy, the farms.
Rebuilding will be climate conscious and smart, with the help of various role players such as the University of Stellenbosch. Please have a look at our focus areas.

The Dream
Our dream and the inspiration behind the R62 Growth Initiative is to restore these communities to their former glory – preserving them for generations to come.
The farms along this route not only provide South Africa with various lines of produce but also form an integral part of the South African economy through exports.
Farms and the rural business play a major role in job creation and retention and in preventing overnight urbanization, adding to the already burdened infrastructure of the bigger towns and cities.
